OKBet Volley: What is Snow Volleyball?

A winter team sport known as snow volleyball is played by two teams of three players each on a snow court that is separated by a net.

Each team’s goal is to score points by hitting the ball over the net into the court of the opposing team while simultaneously thwarting the other team’s attempts to do the same thing in order to keep them from scoring themselves.

It is permissible for a team to make up to three touches before the ball is returned to their side of the court, but players cannot touch the ball more than once in a row.

The game was derived from beach volleyball in Austria, where it was first played. The international governing body for the sport of volleyball is known as the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB).

Even though there are no specifically codified rules, a variation of volleyball that is played on snow has been played for decades, especially in countries such as Russia, Austria, and Switzerland. This is done simply as a variation of the game of volleyball that is played on snow.

In the late 1990s, Austria and Switzerland hosted unofficial competitions of snow volleyball. The concept was revived in 2008 on the initiative of a local promoter named Martin Kaswurm. Since then, the sport has become increasingly popular. The first Snow Volleyball Tour was organized in 2009 after the sport gained traction in Wagrain, Austria, in 2008, making it the birthplace of the sport.

2011 was the year that the Austrian Volleyball Association officially acknowledged it as a sport in its own right. The Tour was initially limited to the territory of Austria, but by 2013 it had expanded to include stops in a variety of other European nations. In October of 2015, the European Volleyball Confederation (CEV) gave the sport its official stamp of approval and went on to organize the first CEV Snow Volleyball European Tour the following year. In March of 2018, Austria played host to the first-ever CEV European Snow Volleyball Championships. The tournament was organized by the CEV.

Since then, a Snow Volleyball European Tour has been held annually under the auspices of the CEV, with competitions taking place in countries as diverse as Austria, the Czech Republic, Georgia, Italy, Liechtenstein, Russia, Slovenia, Switzerland, and Turkey. In addition, 17 national federations held qualifying competitions for the first-ever European Championships during the winter of 2018, and the winners of those competitions advanced to compete in the European Championships.

A demonstration of snow volleyball will take place at the 2018 Winter Olympics, and the International Federation of Volleyball Associations (FIVB) and the Confederation of European Volleyball (CEV) have recruited former Olympians who competed in beach volleyball to take part in the event. Since then, additional efforts have been made to raise the overall number of people who participate in the sport across the world.

Teams from the United States of America, Brazil, and Kazakhstan were given their first opportunities to compete on the European Tour at the very first tournament of the 2018–2019 season. In the meantime, the FIVB Snow Volleyball World Tour got its start in 2019, beginning with two events that were co-hosted by the FIVB and CEV in Wagrain and Plan de Corones. This was followed by the first such event to be held outside of Europe, which took place in Bariloche, Argentina. As a result of the establishment of the Snow Volleyball World Tour, national teams from countries with a relatively short history of participation in winter sports, such as Brazil and Argentina, have been given the opportunity to win their very first international medals in any snow or ice sport.
