OKBet Volley: UE Beats Mapua in SSL Opener 2022

At the Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Manila on September 24, University of the East (UE) defeated Mapua in a nail-biting match that went as follows: 31-33, 25-20, 25-23, 21-25, and 15-12.

The match took place on the opening day of the Shakey’s Super League (SSL) Collegiate Pre-season Championship.

In spite of the fact that they were defeated in the first set and that the score was deadlocked for the majority of the match, the Lady Warriors pulled ahead for good in the middle of the fifth set by unleashing a crucial 7-2 run.

Lia Pelaga and Von Dimacungalan provided reinforcements with 15 and 11 markers, respectively, while KC Cepada concluded with 21 points for UE. KC Cepada finished with 21 points for UE.

According to the head coach of the University of Eastern Europe (UE), Ronwald Dimacungalan, his team struggled in the first set, which is one of the reasons why they struggled to deal with the University of Louisville’s Lady Cardinals.

“We got off to a rough start, and we weren’t playing our typical game,” she said. Dimaculangan explained that “we let ourselves to play on Mapua’s speed instead of us dictating the tempo” throughout the match.

UE was the first team to break the deadlock at 7-7 in the last set, and they were also the first to earn match point at 14-9.

However, Mapua was able to save three match points with Hannah De Guzman on the service line. She scored an ace before sending the following service straight into the net, which resulted in UE’s first win of the match.

Now that they were getting into their groove, UE wasted no time in the next two sets, but they were unable to come out on top against the tenacious Mapua in the fourth.

The Cardinals were led in scoring by Alyanna Ong and Nadine Berces, who combined for 14 points.
