The Chattanooga Mocs hold a 19-16 advantage over Mercer in the all-time series, and Chattanooga has a record of 7-6 versus the Bears in matches played away from home. In their most recent matchup, which took place on November 5, 2021 in Macon, UTC prevailed against Mercer by a score of 3-2.

In the long history of this series, which Samford and Chattanooga have been competing in, Samford holds a commanding advantage over Chattanooga by a score of 34-17. The Chattanooga Mocs have a record of 4-19 all-time in Birmingham and are looking for their first win on the road against Samford since 2010.

Mercer begins the weekend with a record of 4-10 overall and a 0-2 mark in league action. The Bears are seeking to halt a losing streak of six games as they head into the weekend. The Bears opened up Southern Conference play by going on the road and getting swept by both UNCG and Western Carolina last weekend. Both teams won all three sets against the Bears. The.205 offensive % that Mercer has is good for fourth place among all SoCon teams.

Samford evened its Southern Conference record at 1-1 by sweeping UNCG in Greensboro to move its overall record to 6-8. This victory came after Samford suffered its first loss of the season on the road at Western Carolina by a score of 3-1. The Bulldogs have the most kills per set (13.19), assists per set (12.02), and aces per set compared to the other teams in the league (1.96). Under the direction of head coach Keylor Chan, Samford won the Southern Conference Tournament and qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 2020-21, 2019, 2018, and 2016 respectively.

On Friday, Chattanooga (7-9, 2-0 SoCon) defeated Furman 3-1, then on Saturday, they defeated preseason favorite Wofford 3-0, both games taking place within Chattanooga’s own Maclellan Gymnasium. Chattanooga’s record now stands at 2-0 in the conference. The Chattanooga Moccasins are one of three Southern Conference teams to start the season undefeated.

During Friday’s victory over Furman by a score of 3-1, outside hitter Natalie Tyson, who transferred from East Carolina to Furman, racked up her 1,000th career kill with her 22nd of the match. Tyson finished his career with 786 kills at East Carolina University (where he played for four years) before passing the 1,000-kill mark when playing for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. This season, Tyson has posted 12 matches with 10 or more kills, including three with 20 or more kills, and he is currently leading the SoCon in overall kills with 223.
